The Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign is a registered student organization dedicated to promoting social, cultural and intellectual activities for Chinese students and scholars. At the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, the CSSA is a student found, funded and coordinated non-profit organization. Composed of a board of directors and ten distinct departments, the CSSA is operated by nearly 400 vigorous on-campus students. As the university with the leading number of international Chinese students, the CSSA wields immense influence across campus, representing over a tenth of the student population. Whilst maintaining a focus on improving the college experience of Chinese students, the CSSA is also obligated to defend and further the interests of the local Chinese population, by maintaining a frequent and relative dialogue with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago.
